Nar Phu Trek|Nar Phu Valley Treks – 25 Days

Trekker's are heading down

Nar Phu trek is a part of Annapurna region. The word Annapurna is a Sanskrit word. It has two words Anna + Purna separately. Where “Anna” stands for GRAIN and “Purna” stands for FULL, thus the meaning for the word is “Full OF GRAINS” in common Nepali language. This is also popular as “GODDESS OF THE HARVEST” in Nepal. Nar and Phu are two different settlement situated in the north from main Annapurna Circuit Trek.

Nar-Phu

Nar Phu valley trek is wild and unexplored trekking routes in Nepal situated in the Manang District. Nar Phu trek is perfect for travelers who want to discover and explore Annapurna Circuit. As well as trekkers, nature lovers can explore an untouched valley, a rough and wild trek. This trek leads you to the exotic  This trekking route opens for trekkers in 2003 AD.

Nar Phu valley is a model trek for those trekkers who have time and desire to venture into some of the less flattened remote regions of Nepal. It is also a spectacular trek route of Nepal with a spectacular view of ethnically-Tibetan inhabitants. This is a trek that combines remote villages, narrow canyons, lovely forests, amazing rock formations, yaks, Gompas and unique Himalayan cultures. Trekking to Annapurna circuit, the bridge leading over the Marsyagndi River to the steep portals of the Nar Phu valley system is easily missed. But although the entrances are narrow and forested. Valley above opens up to the huge expanse of high snow-peaks, ancient villages, and high altitude grazing settlements.

This decision to open up Nar and Phu by Nepal Government has reminded little enthusiasm among the villagers for their past history. Earlier it was the trade route between Nepal and Tibet. It was a barter system trading by that time. A path leading from the Nar-Phu valley into Tibet had made them dependent on the salt trade and still today yak herding is the basis of their livelihood. Few trekker views this exotic land offers medieval Tibetan culture in undisturbed form, dramatic mountain views, and great alpine scenery. Snow leopards and blue sheep are rarely seen in this area. Nar-Phu valley trekking begins from Koto via walking through a unique Marsyagndi valley.

Season

It is open round the year still we suggest either spring (March-May) or Autumn (September-November)

During the spring, the day starts nice and clear but progressively gets windier and cloudier which leads to frequent afternoon showers. This to and fro of weather dance finally ends up to the monsoon reaching its full glory around mid-June.

Monsoon seasons signals a grinding halt to the trekking sector of the Annapurna region but in contrast, the wildlife is in full vigor. Wildflowers eagerly anticipate the monsoon, Himalayan Thars get busy tending to their newborns and Himalayan Monals work hard displaying to prospective mates. The whole land rejuvenates during Monsoon season which ends in September.

When September rolls around, the clouds leave their hold of the sky creating a perfect backdrop of clear and blue skies. The mountains wake up from their deep slumber during Monsoon season and display their full bloom of beauty. This makes for a perfect trekking season up until November but a bit of crowded.

By December, winter is in full swing with occasional heavy snow. Since there are a lot fewer people and more wildlife, it is a perfect time to trek for the prepared. However, caution must be exercised to its fullest to prepare completely for the winter weatherperson of the Himalayas.

Annapurna Circuit Trekking

Trekking in Nepal was started from the Annapurna region about five decades ago. The trekking was introduced by ex Gurkha colonel Jimmy Roberts. While trekking was introduced we had to travel with full of equipment. Such as lodging (tents), foods and all kitchen utensils with plenty of manpower together. These days most of the trekking route has basic hotels. We can trek hotel to hotel and they are able to supply all the basic need for trekkers. Some places along the route we can get some modern amenities too.

Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of the most popular and famous trekking routes of Nepal. It is the only trekking route in Nepal where we can enjoy the mountain ranges from four different directions. Eagle Treks and Expedition and its experience guide will try to make this trek easier and memorable for your lifetime.

The Sceneries

Panoramic sceneries of Himalayas, including of the Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Annapurna I(8091m) Mt. Manaslu (8156 m), Mt. Annapurna II (7937 m.),  the Annapurna III (7555 m),  and Annapurna IV (7525 m), and Annapurna South (7219 m), Mt. Nilgiri (7041m), Mt. Fishtail also called Mt. Machhapuchhare (6993m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6441m), Mt. Lamjung Himal (6986m), Tukuche peak (6920m), and Tilicho peak (7145m).

The Culture and Trip Information

Furthermore, there are the settlements of diverse communities such as the Brahmin, Chhetri, Thakali, Magars, Tamang, and Gurung. Also, this trekking’s trail is rich in wild animals such as Mountain Thaar/ Goat, Leopards, Jackal, birds such as pheasant, long-tail birds among others. We also start this trek form 760 m we can reach up to 5416 m gradually and can also enjoy the dense village on the starting and ending point.

The circuit takes one around the Annapurna Himal, following the courses of two mighty rivers– Marsyangdi in the east and the Kaligandaki in the west. Kaligandaki is the world’s deepest gorge, which flanks with the giant Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalaya range. The flora, geography, and culture also change dramatically around the Annapurna circuit trek.

Weather in the Annapurna Circuit

October – November

This is the most popular hiking season in Nepal. Due to the recent monsoons, everything along the circuit is refreshed, clean and vibrant. Views are usually clear and the night sky is extremely visible. Though the weather is generally warm, nighttime temperatures drop below freezing. This is the busiest period on the circuit and tea houses book up very quickly.

December – March

The winter, coldest and freezing season in Nepal. Depending on the altitude, day time temperatures will be cold and nighttime temperatures drop well below freezing. The tradeoff is that the trails are much less busy. Thorang La Pass, which stands at over 5,000 meters, is often blocked with snow and may be closed for days on end. Unless the snow blocks most trails, tea houses still remain open during this period. Clouds prevail more frequently, but clear days are still common. Towards March the rhododendrons start flowering, which brings hillsides alive with flaming colors. Unfortunately, this period is also when avalanches are most common.

April – May

Because of the warming weather, April to May is the second most popular trekking season on the Annapurna Circuit. Most of the snow has dissipated, leaving crystal clear skies. There is often a strange haze that can be seen from the lower altitudes during May. However, this soon passes and cannot be seen from higher up the trail. As the monsoon period builds towards the end of May, the days become hotter and more humid which makes trekking at lower altitude quite uncomfortable.

June – September

Considered as monsoon season. Although there are stories of torrential downpours, mudslides, and hordes of leeches, this is rarely the case on the Annapurna Circuit, particular the northern section. Whilst the south section of the Annapurna Circuit near Pokhara does get a lot of rain, the northern parts often receive less than 10% of the precipitation due to the location within a rain shadow. The upside of trekking in the monsoon period is that many of the flora species flowers during this period, making the trek exceptionally beautiful.
